Arizona State hockey coach Greg Powers’ office at his team’s home arena is small, and if it was ever quaint, those days ended years ago.
Powers’ desk sits on flooring that’s a bit worn and inside a building, Oceanside Ice Arena in Tempe, that’s three years older than the 42-year-old Powers.
It seems an unlikely place to house a success story, yet that’s what the Sun Devils have become this season. In just their fourth season since moving from a club sport to an NCAA Division I program, the Sun Devils are 16-9-1 and 12th in the Pairwise rankings, which mirrors the NCAA 16-team tournament selection.
