Former NFL head coach Herman Edwards will interview for the open Arizona State job this week, he confirmed Tuesday to ESPN.
Edwards, 63, has not coached since his final days as head coach with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2008. He has spent the last nine years with ESPN as an NFL analyst.
Although Edwards has not coached in a while, he is close with ASU Vice President of Athletics Ray Anderson. During his days as an agent, Anderson represented Edwards, who also coached the New York Jets. He went 54-74 during eight NFL seasons.
