Just days before the U.S. Olympic Track Trials, former Arizona State track star Shelby Houlihan has received a four-year ban for a positive drug test.
Houlihan, 28, tested positive for the anabolic steroid nandrolone in a test conducted Dec. 15 by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
The 28-year-old is the U.S. record holder in the 1,500-meter and 5,000 and was a 2016 Olympian. She was a 12-time All-America at ASU and second in the 1,500 at the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Houlihan offered a lengthy explanation in her defense Monday, saying that she believes the false positive for nandrolone came from eating a burrito containing pig meat 10 hours before the drug test near her home in Beaverton, Oregon.
