Shelby Houlihan, a 12-time All-America and NCAA champion at Arizona State, qualified for the Rio Olympics in the 5,000-meter Sunday on the final day of the U.S. Olympic Track Trials in Eugene, Ore.
Houlihan, in her first full year with the Bowerman Track Club, took second in 15:06.14, behind Molly Huddle (15:05.01). Houlihan is the fourth Rio qualifier out of ASU for the U.S. team, joining marathoners Amy Cragg and Desi Linden and Chris Benard in men's triple jump. Also former Sun Devil Christabel Nettey, who trains with Altis in Phoenix, won long jump with 21-8 3/4 at the Canadian Olympic Trials and will compete in Rio.
