Former Arizona State All-America Desiree Linden finished fourth Monday at the 119th Boston Marathon.
Linden, 31, was in front of among the lead pack through the first 21 miles of the 26.2-mile race. Ethiopian Mare Dibaba made a move at 23 miles with Linden fighting back to take the lead. At mile 24, Dibaba, Ethiopian Buzunesh Deba and Kenyan Caroline Rotitch made a decisive break, leaving Linden in fourth where she would finish.
Rotich, who trains in Santa Fe, N.M., outkicked Dibaba to win by four seconds in 2 hours, 24 minutes, 55 seconds. Deba was third in 2:25:09 followed by Linden (2:25:39).
