Former ASU baseball All-America Mike Colbern dies at age 63

Former Arizona State baseball All-America Mike Colbern recently died at age 63.

Colbern played at ASU from 1974-76 and was All-America first team as a junior outfielder on a 65-10 team that finished third at the College World Series.

Colbern was a career .352 hitter at ASU, peaking at .361 in 1976 when he hit 11 home runs and had 78 RBI.

The Chicago White Sox chose Colbern in the second round of the 1976 draft, three rounds higher than he was selected by Kansas City out of Hawthorne (Calif.) High School. He played in 80 games for the White Sox as a catcher in 1978 and '79.
