In late December of 1970 a storm front hit Atlanta, dropping temperatures into the 30s and rain, sleet and snow onto the city’s streets.
The Arizona State fans who had flown in for the Peach Bowl game against North Carolina weren’t ready for the cold. Instead of taking in the city, they scrambled to find warm clothing.
“All these people from Arizona were running around department stores trying to buy hats and gloves and jackets,” said Terry Wojtulewicz, then the Sun Devils’ ticket manager. “During the game it was so bad you couldn’t even see the press box from across the field.
