Runge still had a steep hill to climb to be able to compete as a member of Team USA in Rio. In June 2016, after a six-week training camp at the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center, Runge participated in the Olympic Trials for a chance to represent her country the following month in Brazil.
TEMPE, Ariz. – After attending swimming powerhouse Cal out of high school in 2014-15 -- and breaking three school records in her freshman season -- Cierra Runge redshirted her sophomore season to train in Tempe for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
