TEMPE, Ariz. – On Monday, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced the indoor region athletes of the year, and redshirt junior Maggie Ewen was selected as the West Region Female Field Athlete of the Year.
Ewen becomes the first female Sun Devil to win the indoor award since Jacquelyn Johnson in 2008, and the first female to win an indoor or outdoor award since Anna Jelmini in 2011. The last ASU track and field athlete to win a regional award was NCAA Champion Bryan McBride in 2015.
The St. Francis, Minnesota-native qualified for both the shot put and weight throw at this coming weekend's NCAA Indoor Championships in College Station, Texas.
