When Arizona State football was desperate for secondary help a few years back, Evan Fields answered the call.
A four-star recruit out of Oklahoma City, Fields could have played it safe and signed with Notre Dame, Oregon or UCLA, which were among his six finalists for school.
Instead, the safety rolled the dice on Arizona State, coming off consecutive seasons ranked last nationally in pass defense, hoping perhaps new defensive coordinator Phil Bennett had the magic touch.
"He (Fields) was probably one of the most dynamic playmakers we watched," then ASU head coach Todd Graham said on signing day in February 2017.
