Jeremy Schaap remembers the first time Arizona State coach Bobby Hurley captured his curiosity.
His father, Dick Schaap, had just visited with Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski, and the respected journalist couldn't stop raving about this young point guard from Jersey City.
"He had known Krzyzewski forever and he said, 'Mike told me this is the toughest son of a bitch he had ever been around,' " Jeremy Schaap recalled. "And you look at Bobby. He’s maybe 6-foot, maybe 150 pounds, throwing the ball in Christian Laettner's face. I think from that point I was always kind of fascinated by him.
