Boston College tried pitching around Arizona State baseball star Spencer Torkelson on Sunday then tried pitching to him.
Neither worked in No. 8 ASU’s 8-4 series-sweeping win at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.
Trevor Hauver hit a two-run homer after Torkelson was intentionally walked with two outs in the sixth inning. In the eighth, with no one on and two outs, the Eagles changed pitchers to have a right-hander throw to Torkelson, who took an 0-2 pitch to the opposite field for his 52nd career homer and fourth this season.
Only one man now is between Torkelson and the school home-run record, College Baseball Hall of Famer Bob Horner, who hit 56 from 1976-78.
