TEMPE – Fresh off of her first NCAA Championships appearance, Sun Devil senior Jessica Barreira made history under the lights at Sun Angel Stadium when she set the school record in the javelin throw Friday to conclude the first day of the Baldy Castillo Invitational in Tempe.
Barreira's record-setting heave came on her second attempt of the evening. The javelin soared 50.46m/165-6 feet, nearly two meters farther than the previous school record held by ASU hall of famer and seven-time NCAA champion Jacquelyn Johnson since 2008.
She wasn't the only Devil to move up on the javelin list as Cerah Moren put her name at No.
