Spencer Torkelson came to Arizona State as an undrafted third baseman out of high school. He leaves as the No. 1 overall draft pick in Major League Baseball, apparently headed back to third after playing first base in college.
The Detroit Tigers made what some dubbed "Tank for Tork" a reality on Wednesday by choosing Torkelson with the first pick, a selection earned from an MLB-worst 47-114 record in 2019
The Tigers announced Torkelson as a third baseman, with general manager Al Avila telling ESPN, "We know he can play first. Our scouts strongly feel he can play third base, and that's our intent at this point.
