Arizona State juniors Lyle Lin and Carter Aldrete were early third-day picks in the major league baseball draft Wednesday.
The Arizona Diamondbacks chose Lin, a catcher, in the 14th round (No. 422 overall). That’s an improvement over 2018 when Lin, draft eligible because of his age, was picked in the 29th round by Houston.
Rather than signing, Lin returned to ASU, hitting .300 with nine home runs and 49 RBI as catcher/designated hitter and showing improved ability behind the plate.
Aldrete was a 15th-round draft pick (No. 446) by San Francisco, which also selected ASU’s Hunter Bishop in the first round.
