Over the summer and throughout preseason camp, Arizona State has preached toughness. One play during Tuesday's media-viewing period illustrated as much.
In a one-on-one tackling drill, senior running back Demario Richard and junior linebacker Christian Sam were matched against each other on the goal line.
The point of this drill:
"It's mano-a-mano," ASU coach Todd Graham said. "It just kind of sets the physicality and tempo for the day."
On their first rep, Richard exploded and darted left. The senior running back is built like a tank. Although he has dropped a few pounds, Richard last year benched more than 350 pounds and squatted more than 500.
