MORGANTOWN, W.Va.—The Arizona State wrestling team (2-1) opened the 2015-16 season with a pair of wins at the Mountaineer Quad on Sunday at West Virginia’s WVU Coliseum.
ASU defeated Campbell, 29-6, and Drexel, 27-6, before falling in a close match to West Virginia, 22-14. In the matchup against the Mountaineers, both teams won five bouts, but West Virginia picked up an injury default and a pin to pull away from the Sun Devils. ASU will have a rematch with WVU on January 4 in Tempe.
Four Sun Devils went 3-0 on the day: Robbie Mathers (141), Jacen Petersen (165), Blake Stauffer (184), and Tanner Hall (HWT).
