The 6th-ranked Arizona State women’s golf team started its spring season with a bang when they set out to Palos Verdes Golf Club in California for the Northrop Grumman Reg Challenge.
Olivia Mehaffey, a sophomore from Belfast, Ireland, fired an opening round 68, which put her on top of all competitors after the first round. Although Mehaffey carded a 3-under opening round, it wasn’t the most impressive part of the day.
On the second hole, a 200-yard Par 3, Mehaffey registered a hole-in-one to give herself the early lead. She would go on to make two birdies in a row after to post a strong 4-under front nine.
