This is supposed to be a springboard season for Arizona State basketball. After two losing seasons, the Sun Devils are expected to make a push into the Pac-12’s upper half, and in turn, challenge for an NCAA Tournament bid.
They might.
But they’re not off to a good start. ASU on Thursday opened its exhibition season – the first of three games – with a 98-90 double-overtime win over Northern State, a Div. II school from Aberdeen, S.D., that’s predicted to win its conference.
“I’m just thankful it’s October right now and we got a few weeks to work on things,” ASU coach Bobby Hurley said.
