Ray Anderson does not have infinite patience.
But he has enough when it comes to Arizona State baseball to remain supportive of coach Tracy Smith despite consecutive losing seasons, a first in school varsity history since 1959.
ASU Vice President for Athletics Anderson said Tuesday that Smith, under contract through the 2021 season, will return for his fifth season despite fan unrest over back-to-back 23-32 seasons. The Sun Devils failed to make the NCAA Tournament in consecutive years for the first time since 1995-96.
"We get the passion for ASU baseball," Anderson said during a press conference to discuss the program.
