Spencer Torkelson still hasn't fully come to grips with the abrupt end of his Arizona State baseball career even though his life has changed immeasurably over the last six weeks.
Rather than preparing for a rivalry series at Arizona this weekend, Torkelson is at home hitting in a batting cage he built in his parents' backyard in Petaluma, Calif., and waiting to learn when Major League Baseball will hold its amateur draft.
The ASU junior first baseman is projected to be the No. 1 pick in the draft, originally scheduled to begin June 10 but due to the coronavirus pandemic could be held as late as July 20 and perhaps cut to as few as five rounds instead of the normal 40.
