Over the past few weeks, I have talked with Arizona State position coaches about what they learned during spring practice. This is the final installment. I hope you enjoyed the series.
Today: Special teams.
Coach: Shawn Slocum. In his second season, Slocum coaches special teams and ASU’s outside linebackers. Before joining coach Todd Graham’s staff, he spent eight seasons coaching special teams in the NFL.
State of the position: Strong. For Graham’s first three seasons, special teams were a pain in his backside. He fired his first special-teams coordinator – Joe Lorig – and then handed a bulk of the duties to new defensive coordinator Keith Patterson.
