Trisha Ford still was dealing with the fallout from two of her best Arizona State softball players transferring when a life-threatening crisis changed her parents' lives.
Lennie and Nancy Dean were among thousands in Paradise, Calif., whose homes were destroyed in November by the Camp Fire, which killed 85.
The Deans have lived in Paradise for 17 years. Lennie coaches multiple sports at the high school and Nancy works in the kitchen at an elementary school in nearby Magalia.
"The whole town is gone," Ford said. "My dad's lived on their property. Her house is gone, my parents' house is gone.
