As much as losing to No. 4 Stanford stung Sunday for No. 24 Arizona State women's basketball, it paled compared to the pain of losing guard Kiara Russell to what could be a season-ending knee injury.
Russell, one of five ASU seniors playing their final home game, went down with 7:26 left in the second quarter on a play under the Stanford basket at Desert Financial Arena. She watched the second half with her left knee in a brace and using crutches then was supported by family members during a post-game Senior Day ceremony.
"Our heart goes out to her," said ASU senior forward Jamie Ruden, who like Russell is from Minnesota.
