The Arizona State Rose Bowl teams are like starships linked with some sort of time-bending tractor beam that binds them together in a never-ending journey.
When one celebrates an anniversary so does the other. It's been that way since 1996 when the Sun Devils went undefeated in the regular season, advancing to ASU Rose Bowl II against Ohio State, coached by John Cooper. That came 10 years after Rose Bowl I, when Cooper coached the Sun Devils to a win over Michigan. The connection only deepens with each five- and 10-year increment, especially since Rose Bowl III remains elusive 20 years after what fans believed would become a more frequent occurrence.
