EUGENE, Ore — The Arizona State football team was counted out before the season started. Coach Herm Edwards' team was picked last in the Pac-12 South, yet found itself two wins away from a Pac-12 South title.
But the surprising Sun Devils couldn't complete the job and lost to Oregon 31-29 on a frigid Saturday night at Autzen Stadium. That loss combined with Utah's 30-7 win over Colorado earlier in the day gives Utah (8-3, 6-3) the division title.
It was also another case of the Sun Devils coming oh so close. The four previous losses were each by seven points each, so this makes five losses by a combined 30 points.
