This is the third of a four-part series profiling the life of new Arizona State football coach Herm Edwards.
In January of 2001, Herm Edwards was in Mobile, Ala., watching practice at the Senior Bowl when his agent approached and handed him a cell phone.
“You need to talk with somebody,” Ray Anderson, Edwards’ future boss at Arizona State, told his client.
New York Jets owner Woody Johnson was on the line. He wanted to offer Edwards – who had interviewed just days earlier – the team’s head-coaching position.
Edwards had four other interviews lined up, but he didn’t hesitate.
