The earliest spring football practice in Arizona State or maybe any school's history ended Thursday night with an intentional thud.
There was no tackling before a small crowd at Sun Devil Stadium other than during blocking drills at the outset, and the final score -- Maroon 62, White 39 -- meant nothing because no one understood the point system.
But the 15 spring practices ended with no major injuries and a four-week start on sorting out four quarterbacks candidates.
"We accomplished something we needed to accomplish," second-year coach Herm Edwards. "The first thing was probably get the quarterbacks acclimated to competition.
