Arizona State crushed Washington State 18-3 on Saturday in Pullman, winning a series for the first time in three weeks.
ASU (16-10, 3-6 Pac-12) put up five runs in the first inning of the series-deciding game and seven in the fifth, more than enough offense for junior Eder Erives to get a win in his first career start.
Erives (3-0) struck out 11 in seven innings, both career highs. The right-hander allowed a run in the first then blanked the Cougars (9-16, 2-7) for five of the next six frames, retiring 12 straight in one stretch. Jordan Aboites and Connor Higgins pitched in the final two innings.
