Arizona State athletic teams are free to schedule Grand Canyon University in 2019-20 and beyond, a change from ASU's past policy.
ASU Vice President for Athletics Ray Anderson said given GCU's return to non-profit status a year ago that ASU President Michael Crow is no longer prohibiting athletic competition between the cross-town Division I schools.
There was not enough time going into 2018-19 season to schedule much between ASU and GCU. The schools did play in beach volleyball in February with the Sun Devils winning 3-2.
Anderson is not sure when ASU and GCU will play in men's basketball although it will not be in 2019-20.
