Arizona State basketball has parted ways with assistant coach Brian Merritt, a source close to the program told azcentral sports.
Merritt joined coach Bobby Hurley's staff shortly after the head coach was hired last April. He previously had worked at John Lucas Enterprises as well as several other schools.
Merritt was the lead recruiter for five-star prospect and ASU target Thon Maker, who on Sunday declared for the NBA draft. He pretty much was hired for his recruiting and connections throughout grassroots basketball.
Merritt was arrested for suspicion of DUI in Scottsdale, leading to a two-week leave of absence.
