At 2,378 feet, we paused to drink water and take in the scenery. Arizona State basketball coach Bobby Hurley had agreed to let azcentral sports tag along while he hiked the Gateway Loop Trail in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve in North Scottsdale.
The point of the assignment was to discuss how Hurley – a self-described "city kid” who grew up in Jersey City, N.J. – found a home in the Arizona desert.
