ASU baseball to shorten Phoenix Municipal Stadium next season

Arizona State baseball will build a batting cage complex and make Phoenix Municipal Stadium more hitter-friendly after this season, which opens Friday.

Third-year coach Tracy Smith said Monday that construction is scheduled to begin after the regular season home finale against Arizona on May 20 regardless of ASU's postseason status.

The indoor batting facility along the right-field line will include a patio roof with spectator seating and viewing windows into the cages.

ASU has considered changing the dimensions of Phoenix Municipal Stadium, formerly the Oakland A's spring training home, since moving in for the 2015 season.
