Arizona State Sun Devils’ men’s baseball traveled up to northern California, looking to upset No. 2 Stanford, but fell 3-1 on Friday night.
The Cardinal got the fireworks going first when Kyle Stowers hit a solo shot over the right field fence to open up the scoring in the second inning.
In the bottom of the third, with two outs and two strikes and one man on, Nico Hoerner sliced one down the right field line for an RBI triple to extend the Stanford lead, 2-0.
Stanford would add an insurance run after a wild pitch by Jake Godfrey with the bases loaded.
