Arizona State’s Tracy Smith was mentally working on his post-game speech for a tough loss in the series opener against No. 4 Stanford when his team rallied to win with four ninth-inning runs.
The Sun Devils faced almost the same scenario in game 2 Friday night but could only score two runs in a 6-4 loss at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.
Smith’s message was much the same as it would have been had the Thursday comeback fell short.
“Outside of a couple of things, we played good baseball,” Smith said. “That’s a really good opponent. We’re right there.
