Former Arizona State Sun Devil Desiree Linden became the first American woman to win the Boston Marathon since 1985 Monday, crossing the finish line on a cold, rainy Boston day in 2:39.54.

In 2011, after going back-and-forth with eventual champion Caroline Kalel in the final stretch, Linden — then Desiree Davila — finished just two seconds behind Kalel to nab the runner-up position.
