ASU alum Desiree Linden becomes first U.S. woman to win Boston Marathon in 33 years

Former Arizona State Sun Devil Desiree Linden became the first American woman to win the Boston Marathon since 1985 Monday, crossing the finish line on a cold, rainy Boston day in 2:39.54.

Linden has been close to victory before. In 2011, after going back-and-forth with eventual champion Caroline Kalel in the final stretch, Linden — then Desiree Davila — finished just two seconds behind Kalel to nab the runner-up position.
