A case can be made that Arizona State volleyball and soccer will be better prepared to succeed in the spring instead of the fall, and their coaches are taking that approach as they head into a semester without competition.
"We never get to train before we compete as much as we should," volleyball coach Sanja Tomasevic said. "It takes a long time for a team to click. Usually it's by October or November and by that time your season is almost done."
With nine new players on a roster of 19 with 13 underclassmen, Tomasevic has good reason to believe her fourth ASU team will be more seasoned in January, the soonest Pac-12 teams will be allowed to play because of the coronavirus pandemic.
