Arizona State mounts comeback, advances to NCAA Women's Golf Championship

SUGAR GROVE, Ill. - Arizona State advanced to the NCAA Division I Women’s Championship final Wednesday, defeating Stanford after semifinal play resumed at Rich Harvest Farms.

Play was suspended due to darkness Tuesday with two matches still on the course in the Stanford-Arizona State match. USC and Northwestern had to finish up their semifinal Wednesday morning, as well.

After play resumed, Arizona State senior Monica Vaughn, the NCAA individual champion this year, won the par-5 18th hole with birdie before defeating Stanford freshman Albane Valenzuela on the first playoff hole.

Then Sun Devils sophomore Linnea Strom forced extra holes against Madeline Chou before winning with par and sending Arizona State to the final.
