Late Sunday night, Jerry Stackhouse received a call from Romello White’s mother. She asked the former NBA standout if he would talk to her son and try and lift his spirits. A redshirt-freshman forward, White had fouled out in just six total minutes in Arizona State’s narrow win at Utah. After a strong start, he was struggling.
Stackhouse talked with White later that night.
“I was just like, man, just get back to being you,’’ said Stackhouse, who mentored White during the forward's time in his Stackhouse Elite summer program. “Don’t put too much pressure on yourself.
