The Arizona Board of Regents approved a two-year contract extension through June 2024 for Arizona State men's basketball coach Bobby Hurley on Thursday.
At the Regents meeting in Flagstaff, ASU President Michael Crow said Hurley’s achievements are significant and that "we are trying to make sure he stays in place here with us.”
The one material difference of significance, he said, is an accelerated “buyout fee” Hurley would have to pay if he is recruited away. Specifically, Hurley is required to pay a $1 million buyout if he leaves in the fourth year of his new contract, up from $500,000.
