Alabama softball rallied from a five-run deficit Sunday to beat Arizona State 9-8 and win the NCAA Tournament regional in Tuscaloosa.
Bailey Hemphill hit a grand slam to left center in the fifth at Rhoads Stadium after Merris Schroder’s solo homer earlier in the inning. Hemphill’s homer off Cielo Meza was her 23rd of the season.
The No. 8 national seed Tide (55-7) went on to their 40th consecutive NCAA regional win, a streak dating to 2007. KB Sides had the game-winning hit, a two-out single after two walks in the top of the seventh off Samantha Mejia (16-10).
