The Arizona State men's basketball team on Thursday takes the court for the first time at Wells Fargo Arena. The exhibition against UC Santa Cruz won't count, but it might provide a solid look at where the Sun Devils stand entering coach Bobby Hurley's second season.
UC Santa Cruz is an NCAA Division III school. The Banana Slugs last season finished 10-15. The exhibition – scheduled to tip at 7 p.m. – is open to the public and admission is free. Three things to watch:
1. Small ball
In last week's "secret" scrimmage against Weber State, Hurley played a small lineup, using three guards, freshman Sam Cunliffe at power forward and 6-foot-8 senior Obinna Oleka at center.
