TEMPE – The No. 16 Arizona State ice hockey team (16-6-5) fell, 5-4, in heartbreaking final seconds against Augustana (7-11-3) on Friday night at Mullett Arena. Despite a high-scoring game, the Vikings netted the game-winning goal with 31 seconds left to snag the series opening victory.
Despite the outcome, several Sun Devils found the back of the net tonight. Matthew Kopperud scored his 14th goal of the season off a behind-the-net pass from Tyler Gratton less than two minutes into the game. Ryan Alexander scored his third goal of the season that put the Sun Devils up to 2-0 with help from Jackson Niedermayer and Brandon Tabakin.
