DENVER – As far as blown saves go, this one was easy to swallow. Not only could no one blame Brad Ziegler for what happened in the eighth inning on Thursday night, but the Diamondbacks closer wound up with the win in a 7-6 Coors Field special.
Ziegler’s consecutive saves streak ended at 43 after he was asked to protect a one-run lead with men on the corners in the eighth and the Colorado Rockies’ D.J. LeMahieu promptly dropped down a game-tying safety squeeze.
But he wound up escaping a bases-loaded, one-out jam to keep it tied, watched as his teammates took the lead in the top of the ninth and then went back out to seal the victory in the bottom of the inning.
