The odds still appear stacked against Yasmany Tomas when it comes to his chances of making the Opening Day roster, but the Diamondbacks are opening a possible avenue for it to happen.
The club had Tomas working out at first base on Tuesday morning at Salt River Fields, a position that could allow him to find his way into the lineup against left-handed pitching.
“We feel like he has the ability to go out there,” manager Torey Lovullo said. “He’s a former third baseman and those instincts don’t really leave infielders.”
