PHOENIX -- The D-backs are expected to officially announce Wednesday that Matt Williams and Garvin Alston will join the team's coaching staff.
The team has not confirmed the hirings, which would make Williams the third-base coach and Alston the bullpen coach, but both have accepted offers the team made last week.
Williams returns to the team for which he played from 1998-2003. Following his retirement in 2003, Williams bought a small ownership stake in the D-backs, which he has since sold, and he was a member of Arizona's coaching staff from 2010-13.
Williams left the D-backs in 2014 to become manager of the Nationals and he led them into the postseason that year before being dismissed following an 83-79 record this past season.
