The top three prospects in the system, on most sites, are Jordan Lawlar, followed by Druw Jones and Tommy Troy in some order. And this makes sense. That trio represents the top picks in the three drafts prior to 2024. In the case of Lawlar and Jones, the Diamondbacks were able to get the player who was, reportedly, top on their board, even without picking first overall in either case. Troy was certainly not the top player on anyone’s board in 2023, but he was a player the Diamondbacks had been scouting for a number of years. James, in the post-draft recap, highlighted a few positive qualities Troy had that appealed to the Diamondbacks.
