The Diamondbacks entered Tuesday still reeling from another self-inflicted nosedive, a 3-17 stretch that has seen them fall from near the top of the National League West to owning the worst record in the league.
As they work to diagnose and correct all that ails them, their general manager, Mike Hazen, is having to consider what might come next. The trade deadline might be more than two months away, but Hazen made it sound on Tuesday that his team might be dangerously close to defining its role.
“I don’t have any real assessments to give you on what we’re thinking, but we need to start playing better,” Hazen said.
