If the baseball season does get underway this year – and if it includes the designated hitter in both leagues, as reports have suggested – it could ease a potential logjam that existed for Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo.
With third baseman Eduardo Escobar and first baseman Christian Walker coming off career years, Lovullo had no easy way to get at-bats for infielder Jake Lamb.
“This creates an extra spot, potentially,” Lovullo said on a conference call with reporters on Tuesday. “Yeah, it’s going to give me a ton of versatility.”
Before the coronavirus pandemic shut down spring training, Lamb had been swinging a hot bat.
