Tyler Clippard wasn’t just considering the worst. He was preparing himself for it. After suffering a sprained shoulder capsule in March, Clippard figured there was a chance he had thrown his last pitch in the majors.
“I’m certainly not a doctor, but I’ve heard of injuries like that and there are no guarantees coming back from something like that,” Clippard said. “So it was scary, man. I’m not a young guy anymore. I’ve got a lot of innings on the arm. … These types of injuries can go either way.”
Fortunately, it went the way Clippard had hoped.
